Hollywood and Kauai

Kauai’s north shore is a favorite vacation spot for some of America’s top Hollywood stars. Over the holiday week, as I listened to stories at dinner parties – it really hit home the special quality Kauai offers, to the famous and not so famous.

Yes, we ‘talk story’ about people we know. And there’s that feeling of familiarity with Hollywood stars. I heard stories from friends about MTV stars at Hanalei Gourmet, Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan shopping, Dixie Chicks jogging, Will Smith taking surf lessons and who’s buying real estate. But it’s just that – talking story.

Have you ever noticed you don’t see articles in the tabloids about Hollywood stars on Kauai? …well at least not very often… No one in Hanalei is selling maps to homes of the stars.

Kauai living is down to earth and people are generally treated for how they act, not who they are, or what they own. There’s a fondness, respect and care in how stars are treated, like the neighbors they sometimes become.

Famous or not, we are all humble fans of the amazing creations of Kauai’s only true diva – Pele!
